VISUAL ART: Human Touch

December 19, 2011

My lovely friend Seoidin O’Sullivan suggested we visit IMMA and the Rivane Neuenschwander exhibition. And I am indebted to her for the wonderful experience. I would highly recommend seeing her work if you can. There was a variety of media including painting, video and installation that span ten years of her career. All aspects of the show stand alone and yet work so well together as there is a strong distinct human element in every piece. I think the most touching for me was the collection of small interesting and varied objects people had made with beer mats, wine corks, scraps of cigarette papers etc. named Involuntary Sculptures. Thanks to Bonniers Konsthall for posting video on Vimeo about Nueunschwander’s fantastic piece First Love.
