CRAFTS: Making Delicious

September 23, 2014

Whenever I need a visual pick-me-up I go to the Jealous Curator. She never fails me.

And because I have been spending endless hours making sand cones in playgrounds these creations really appealed to me. They are the results of a workshop by Studio Fludd. Go crazy with your cone and toppings!!!

CRAFT: Ragged Beauty

November 3, 2012

I was reminded, in conversation, of an article a long while ago in National Geographic featuring these beautiful abstract quilt creations from Gee’s Bend in Alabama.

CRAFT: Fold In

November 2, 2012

I have seen a few books folded with a similar technique but I think the work of Exploded Library is some of my favourite.

DESIGN: In Pieces

October 22, 2012

CoWorks multi-disciplinary design works beautifully in the Me-Far Bowls below. As found on Design Milk.

VISUAL ART: Cut Through

October 10, 2012

The Jealous Curator posted these lovely pieces by Lisa Roden. The precise folding makes these pieces so crisp and appealing.

…as I had to make a 21st Birthday Card I did a little humble copy of her work!

Wandering through This Is Colossal I was reminded of the astonishingly crafted work of Shioyasu Tomoko.

CRAFT/VIDEO: Closer Still

April 20, 2012

Both the maker of this video Jamie Isbell and the potter Sue Paraskeva appreciate what dedicated attention to detail can produce. The video is a beautiful sensitive study of Sue Paraskeva’s steadied skill and minute expression through closely shot and multi-edited footage of her creative process. Thanks to Fan The Fire for the post.

I posted Mini Eco’s work before and now I’m plugging her book, which I’m going to buy. I think everything she makes seems in essence to be simple and straight forward, but the finish on these creations is obviously handled with steely accuracy. She then photographs her lovely crafts with a light, bright colourful and clean touch, which always cheers me up.
